What Are You Doing You Dafty Old Cow?
published on 04/15/11 at 6:25 am Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of a PokerPlasm Legend, Handsome Eddie LeFrancois. Known for his crude, unrelenting, and derogatory poker playing style, he was a breath of fresh air in a poker world filled with donkeys, self-appointed experts, and Euro trash. He was always there to listen and give his opinion. If you needed a freeroll to enter to get your mind off the day, he would find one. And his gambling exploits were always good for a laugh. To honor his memory, Eddies good friend, RudyRudeth, plans on enjoying a game of late night poker. Hopefully hell be watching over me and Ill kick arse but its more likely hell be watching and yelling what the f#$* are you doing you dafty old cow! Ahhh, the memory of Eddie lives on! Here is to you, our good friend! Related posts: Remembering A True Gentleman In The Game Of Life

2010 WSOP
Submitted on Wed, 2010-06-02 05:53 It’s that time of year. The time when the poker world turns it’s eyes to the Mecca of gambling and the site of the annual World Series of Poker (WSOP)-Las Vegas. The first gold bracelet was won on Saturday 2010 Casino Employees Championship Event #1 of the 2010 WSOP was the Casino Employees Championship, which features casino employees. It was first held in 2000 and was called the Dealers World Poker Championship. The next year all casino employees were eligible to enter and the name change was initiated. Hoai D. Pham Wins Event #1 The winner of the first event at the 2010 WSOP is Hoai D. Pham, a dealer from the Village Club Casino in Chula Vista, CA. Pham, who is 43 years old, was born in Vietnam and now lives in San Diego. He won $71,424 after playing in a 15-hour session on Day Two of the event. There were 721 entries in Event #1, which had a $500 buy-in and a prize pool that totaled $324,450. Prize money was divided amongst the top 72 finishers. The final hand saw Pham with pocket aces and his opponent, A.J. Vea, with pocket fours. The community cards did nothing for either player and Pham claimed the top prize with his hole cards. WSOP More Action There is a lot more action to go at the 2010 WSOP with 56 more gold bracelets on the line. The 2010 WSOP runs through July 17 until the Main Event yields just nine players. After that there is a break with the final table for the No-Limit Hold’em Championship being played in November.

Strategy with Kristy: Mike Watson Discusses Playing Big Stacks
December 09 2011, Kristy Arnett Related Articles Strategy with Kristy: Randal Flowers Discusses Bluffing Preflop Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Amanda Musumeci Discusses WSOP Main Event Strategy with Kristy Podcast: Ben Wilinofsky Discusses Short-Stack Strategy Related Players Share It Tags Tournament Strategy, South Point, PokerNews Podcast, Mike Watson, Poker Player Interviews Print Mike Watson, also known as “SirWatts,” has accumulated more than $4 million in tournament winnings and is also one of the most respected high-stakes no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha players online. For this edition of Strategy with Kristy, brought to you by South Point, Watson discusses the strategy behind playing a big stack in a no-limit hold’em tournament. Here is a snippet from the interview: If you’re at a table with a player who’s good and has a big stack, how do you combat them? I mean, it’s a very difficult situation obviously. That’s the nightmare scenario in a tournament. Ideally you have position on them, but if you’re out of position, sometimes you have to tighten up a little bit. You might open-fold some of the speculative hands you’d usually try to pick up some chips with. If they’re going to give you trouble and three-bet you a lot, there’s not much you can do. All you can do is come up with a balanced strategy against them. You’re going to have to four-bet as a bluff sometimes. If they’re really over-aggressive, you might be looking to four-bet light for value hoping to induce them to spew. Sometimes, you can even take flops against them even though you’re out of position and try to outplay them postflop. They might be less comfortable in a postflop game. Players have to learn how to adapt, and for those who came up when no one was really playing that aggressive preflop, learning to four-bet as a bluff can be scary. I think it’s hard for players to integrate these types of plays into their game. Yeah definitely. I used to always be a very tight player, I think most people would say. That’s definitely stuff I used to be uncomfortable putting into my own game. Once you look at the game and break it down to a more theoretical level, you realize you just have to do stuff like that. These are plays that just have to be in your arsenal because it’s the only way to effectively combat the increased aggression of other players.

U.S. House to Hold Online Poker Hearing
Submitted on Tue, 2010-05-18 00:00 The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee will meet on May 19, 2010 at 9:30 am in the Longworth House Office Building. The focus of the hearing is to consider the fate of online poker in the U.S. in connection with “The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act” (UIGEA) that is scheduled to go into effect on June 1, 2010. Invited Testimony The U.S. House committee press release has said that the point is to “hear witnesses, oral testimony at this hearing will be from invited witnesses only.” The release also notes, “However, any individual or organization not scheduled for an oral appearance may submit a written statement for consideration by the Committee and for inclusion in the printed record of the hearing.” What is the UIGEA? This law prohibits anyone from accepting payments from someone if they know those payments are connected to illegal Internet gambling. However numerous Representative and Senators have been involved in excluding poker, which is considered to be a game of skill, from the law. Importance of this Meeting The meeting could be the start of the a movement in the U.S. House and Senate that would legalize online poker. There are numerous bills on tap that are designed to protect online poker in the U.S.

Online Poker Petition Reaches Goal; Poker Players Alliance Urges More Players to Sign
September 28 2011, Matthew Kredell Related Articles Has Senator Jon Kyl Changed His Mind? Poker Players Alliance D.C. Rally Coverage Poker Players Alliance Plans Washington, D.C. Fly-In Share It Tags Poker Players Alliance (PPA), Poker Players, Gambling legislation, Online Poker, Poker and the Law, Politics and Poker Print Poker players are working to get the attention of President Obama. A petition to the Obama administration to protect consumers, create jobs and generate revenue by licensing and regulating online poker took only three days to generate the more than 5,000 signatures required to get an official response. The White House website asked for citizens to create petitions on important issues facing the country, promising that if the petition gets enough support, White House staff would review it, ensure that it is sent to the appropriate policy experts and issue a response. Given what has become of Internet poker in the U.S. during Obama’s reign, with no acknowledgment from the man himself, it seemed like an opportunity not to be missed for the poker community. Drew Lesofski, director of grassroots and external affairs for the Poker Players Alliance, posted the petition on Friday. By Monday, the petition hit the initial threshold of 5,000 signatures that the White House is giving petitions 30 days to reach. “What we really want is to show the administration that a lot of people care about this liberty,” said Rich Muny, PPA vice president of player relations, who mobilized PPA members to sign the petition. “We want it to always be in their heads that poker is in the top-tier of Americans’ interests. To me, that is more important than what response we get from the administration.” For that reason, the PPA is hoping members don’t rest now that the petition has hit the initial necessary total. Muny is asking for more players to sign and to ask family members and friends to sign. On Wednesday morning, the petition was up over 6,500 signatures. That placed it 21st of 86 petitions made. A petition to legalize and regulate marijuana use leads the way with over 40,000 signatures. Some of the petitions are repetitive. Six of the 20 in front of the poker petition involve the legalization of marijuana. The website warns that if a large number of petitions reach 5,000 signatures, the needed total may be raised so that the workload for the White House is manageable. Signing the petition requires submitting a full name and email address to sign up for a whitehouse.gov account. The process takes a minute at most. Last names are not shown on the signature page, just first names and last initials. “It’s very important for everyone in the community to participate,” Muny said. “We want to stay above any bar they choose. It’s very gratifying that the White House thought a good proposal would take 30 days to get 5,000 votes and we did it in three days. That shows the strength of our community.
